Model Flying New Zealand does a great job looking after its members and gaining them special privileges that I will no longer be able to enjoy when flying an RC plane or drone. Why?
In order to not adversely impact the privileges of other members, I won't be renewing my membership of MFNZ come the end of the month. This is a personal choice and does not come without significant cost to my freedom to enjoy the hobby in a "legal" fashion. It also means I won't be able to instruct new entrants to the hobby or supervise those who have not yet attained their "wings" status.
I've talked the talk... now I walk the walk. Open non-compliance is the option I have chosen, so as to bolster the amount of evidence that shows just how over-regulated we already are.
I refuse to lie about my level of compliance with the rules/regs in order to retain my privileges as this would be, IMHO, dishonest. I would hope that no other MFNZ member would endanger the privileges of others by flouting the rules (overtly or covertly) either - especially when it comes to issues such as flying FPV without a spotter or BVLOS.
