Importing Survey Data into AutoCAD Directly is Possible with Topodraw Module of ESurvey CADD. Importing X Y Z coordinates from Excel or CSV Directly into AutoCAD is now possible. Point data present in Excel or CSV that is data Representing Easting, Northing, Elevation with Remarks can be imported directly into AutoCAD. This software is Extensively used by Land Survey Engineers when they use Total Station for capturing Land Survey Data.

Welcome to the second video session on “Introduction to Topodraw”. In the first video, you have seen that data from the total station can be imported either from CSV file or Excel file in ESurvey CADD software interface with Automatic Line joining and Block insertion.
In this video, you will learn
a) How we can directly import Survey Data into CAD Package
b) How to create attribute blocks representing point data
Importing total station data directly to the CAD interface is preferred by many users. ESurvey CADD allows users to import point data directly in CAD Packages like Autocad, Bricscad, and Zwcad. Select “Direct Topodraw” Menu item from Topodraw Sub item of ESurvey CADD Menu. Select the CSV file or excel file which contains survey data. Please note that we have to correctly map column numbers of point data. Normally point data columns will be representing Serial Number, Easting, Northing, Elevation, and Remark.
If there is deviation you can make necessary changes in column numbers on this screen.
Direct Topodraw does not offer features like Automatic Line joining. We still recommend importing data through software interface if you want to import point data with many automation. However, Direct Topodraw helps you to quickly import point data to CAD software. Before converting the point data to draw, we can configure how Code, Serial Numbers and Elevation to appear. We can also mark how far they have to be from point co-ordinate. We can specify whether the text representing these codes are to be generated in a different layer. Once you make all necessary settings in Code Display and Code Layers, you can click on the Generate button to create drawing directly in the CAD package.
How to create attribute blocks representing point data
When we create drawing from ESurvey CADD Interface we can also Export Point data as attribute while generating the output drawing. This concept is mainly adopted when a group of points needs to be rotated to match a particular topography. When we click on the CAD button to generate drawing CAD Output window pops up allowing us to save as Drawing File. We can select the “Create Attribute” option to create an attribute block along with CAD at this stage. Creating attribute blocks is useful sometimes, particularly if you want to make some alterations in the output data. Let us say after generating the drawing, you want to change the position of some of the points, you want to add more points to drawing or you may delete some points from drawing. After making necessary changes, you can export modified drawing data as CSV File. Select “Export point data to CSV File” item from Topodraw Sub item of ESurvey CADD menu and select all attribute blocks in the drawing. CSV file will be created with Serial, Easting, Northing, Elevation and Code.
