About the Presenters
⚫️ Michael Wall, veteran firefighter
Michael Wall is a veteran firefighter with 21 years of service in the largest Fire Department in the Nation. As the original member of his Departments robotics program, Michael aided in the initial joint venture with the FAA, and helped lay the foundational elements for the unit's transition from UAS to robotics.
"I love the ability to change public perception of sUAS operations and be a part of something so groundbreaking in Public Safety. So many advancements in Police and Fire technology are the result of tragedy within a Department. To be attached to a program that is completely proactive is a rare and exciting thing. I strive to develop Public Safety sUAS programs that, once established, their absence becomes an abnormality in the eyes of the public and the City Government.
⚫️ John Wakie, veteran firefighter
John Wakie is an 18 year veteran of the Nation's largest Fire Department. His input within his Department's robotics program not only facilitated the move from tethered UAS to free flight, but also established core safety principles for robotic operations within the complex urban environment.
"Being on the forefront of building a sUAS program for such a large department was no easy task. My colleagues and I learned a lot in the process. Constantly looking at the latest equipment and the endless hours of researching sUAS allowed me to accept a position as a sUAS instructor for New York State Preparedness Training Center. In our classes we work with Public Safety sUAS operators from all over the country. We help them create safe practices and offer ways to safely expand their operations, and training.
