In this video, we explore the diverse storage options and configurations available for your Dell Precision T7910 Workstation. We'll guide you through the installation and testing of drives using HD Sentinel, ensuring you maximize the potential of your workstation.
The Dell Precision T7910 supports both HDDs and SSDs in SATA and SAS formats. Additionally, there is an M.2 slot, ideal for a boot drive. For drive speeds, SATA HDDs offer 7.2K RPM, while SATA SSDs provide speeds of 6Gb/s. SAS HDDs can achieve 7.2K, 10K, or 15K RPM, though it's important to note that SAS HDDs' ball bearings may wear out over time. Upgrading to SSDs, which lack mechanical parts, is a reliable alternative. SAS SSDs offer maximum speeds of 12Gb/s, and if using the SAS interface, a RAID controller is required.
The chassis of the T7910 determines drive size compatibility. It accommodates 3.5” Large Form Factor (LFF) drives but can also use 2.5” Small Form Factor (SFF) drives with the appropriate adaptor. The maximum size for an SFF SATA HDD is 2TB, while an SFF SATA SSD can reach up to 7.68TB. An SFF SAS HDD can hold up to 2.4TB, whereas an SFF SAS SSD can store up to 7.68TB. For LFF drives, both SATA and SAS HDDs can have a maximum storage capacity of 16TB.
