Matt Hancock has given evidence to the Covid Inquiry.
Here are some of the key moments from the former health secretary’s questioning.
They include Mr Hancock denying that he was a liar as he accused Dominic Cummings of creating a “culture of fear” in Downing Street while the Covid pandemic engulfed Britain.
Mr Hancock also told the Covid Inquiry there was a “toxic culture” within the Government during the pandemic.
Additionally, he said he can “now see” why some people in Whitehall said he was overconfident during the pandemic.
The Inquiry then heard from Mr Hancock that he had told Boris Johnson to call for a lockdown on March 13, 2020. However, Hugo Keith, counsel to the Covid Inquiry, said there was no documentary evidence of this claim.
Quoting from Mr Hancock’s book, Mr Keith said the account had been “meticulously pieced together from my formal papers, my communications, WhatsApps” and it “records in 555 pages, all the relevant important events as you saw concerning the coronavirus response”.
Mr Keith added: “But there is no reference to you telling the Prime Minister to call for an immediate lockdown on 13 March.”
