For the past half a century, the USA was the dream destination for immigrants who sought a better life outside the shores of their own country. The turn of the new millennium changed all that as would-be immigrants discovered other countries that offered just as much opportunities as the USA offered but with less hassle. The decline in Immigration to the US was mostly caused by stricter immigration policies, some of which were enacted after the terrorist attacks in New York in 2001. Canada, to the north of the US immediately positioned itself to take over from her richer neighbor. The liberal government of Justin Trudeau continues to welcome immigrants to the country and there are plans to admit one million immigrants over the next three years.
Canada has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world and for this reason is constantly in need of a skilled work force. In order to continue with economic growth and due to skills shortages in many industries, the Canadian government continues to emphasize the need to attract foreign workers to the nation. To put it all mildly, it is almost safe to say, Canada is the world’s, “Garden Of Eden”. Except that it is not. Well, not exactly. Canada maybe a step up from your current country of residence, but it does not mean that it is the perfect place you have been looking for.
