Air TTouch can be a really helpful way to connect with cats that are too shy for direct touch or who can get too overstimulated with it. It can also be helpful to use for an animal who is in physical pain and may not want to be touched directly. I let Reiki flow as well when I do this. It is really important to have the intention and feeling that you are actually touching the animal even though you are not.
