We would like to address a number of things here. The community contest in Thailand was not to draw your own avatar, it was to suggest an avatar for S2 Games to create and add to the game, very much like the contest that we recently ran here in international HoN. Like in our contests, the person who submits an idea did not have to submit original artwork to support that idea. The Thai community member in his submission in the contest did not actually take any credit for drawing the avatar himself (in the submission that was given to us from our Thai partners in Garena, . He stated that the art looked like what he wanted the hero to look like. We referenced numerous other pieces of art that were all related to Pra Ram (Rama outside of Thailand) and found that almost every single piece shared the same characteristics. Pra Ram was then created by our artists referencing not just the art submitted in the contest, but multiple other pieces of art for the same mythological hero.
The original contest participant was not wrong in any way to reference other artwork. Just as a contest winner here could reference artwork of Zeus or Thor or Abraham Lincoln in making suggestions so too can our friends in other regions reference local artwork that depicts their ideas better than the written word. If the winner claimed to create the artwork he used, that is a completely different issue all together, but it would be almost impossible to steal the idea for an avatar based on a figure from myth and legend. All of those are public domain characters.
If you look at our in game ads as well as the web MOTD you can see we went with a slightly different look for the final product as well as a custom look for his monkey servants. I hope you all enjoy the end product. We take allegations of plagiarism very seriously and hold our artists to the highest possible standards. Thank you for being a community that is as concerned about it as we are.
