Dollar became the international currency post the Bretton woods agreement after the WW2. Till 1971, dollar was the international currency, but was backed by a tangible asset called Gold. But not anymore. What has irked the global financial community is not only the dollar not being backed by a tangible asset since then, but consistent devaluing of the currency and pushing the debt ceiling.
The trend 'de-dollarisation' refers to the process by which countries aim to reduce their reliance on the US dollar as the dominant global currency. Therefore, Maintaining the dollar’s dominance is a central issue for Trump.
