Learn Spanish the Comprehensible Input way! Forget boring grammar books, boring teachers and boring short stories in Spanish written for learners with inane descriptions of someone’s breakfast. We select classic, entertaining short stories by several authors and adapt them to Spanish in a way that is easy to understand and entertaining both for Spanish learners and for native Spanish speakers. These stories use high-frequency Spanish words you'll actually find in real life. No grammar added. No silly reading comprehension questions asked. Spoken clearly but at a natural pace, and in a FUN way by native Spanish speakers.
LEARN SPANISH WHILE YOU COOK/ WORKOUT/ DRIVE/ SLEEP:
Here's the FULL playlist of Spanish Input short stories. Play it on loop while you do something else (The "Loop" button is the two arrows, one going to the right and one going to the left). This will help these words and sentences structures become ingrained in your brain:
• Spanish Listening Practice: The Devoted F...
EXTENSIVE READING AND LISTENING: ACQUIRE SPANISH THE NATURAL WAY
This story was especially written using words from the top 10,000 Spanish word forms. Only 2% of the words in this story are outside the list. You can check which words are outside the list by clicking on the link above. All Spanish words outside the frequency list are clearly marked in bold text. The PDF also contains footnote translations of these words. This helps you in two ways:
1) You don't waste your time learning rare words, as is often the case with other Short Stories in Spanish written for learners.
2) The reading and listening experience is much more enjoyable. Since the number of rare words is very small, you can actually enjoy the story, thus naturally acquiring the language without conscious, boring learning of rules. The Input Hypothesis states that there's only one way to acquire a language: When you get comprehensible input. That is, input that you can actually understand and enjoy. Both "Extensive Reading" and "Extensive Listening" are practical applications of this theory, and the short stories in this channel are an example of both.
EAR TRAINING: IMPROVE YOUR SPANISH LISTENING ABILITIES
You can also use this video for effective Spanish ear training! From a computer, click on YouTube's hidden menu (The three dots on the lower right corner of the video) and click on "Open transcript". You can now click on any line of text to repeat the audio until you can understand it fully. This is NOT an automatically synced transcript. It was painstakingly synced by me for people learning Spanish. From the transcript drop-down menu, you can select "Zulu - EAR TRAINING" for more effective listening practice: Open a text document and type what you hear! This is called "The Transcription Technique" and is a very effective way to improve your listening, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation (because you pay close attention to how native Speakers actually articulate words). After selecting "Zulu - Ear Training" you can click on any of the numbers to repeat a line and listen to it again. You can also press the spacebar on your computer to pause and resume the audio. After you have finished your transcription, compare it to the original. You will have several eureka! moments that will dramatically improve your Spanish listening abilities, and you'll learn high frequency vocabulary at the same time!
