Yes, you heard me, MSI Afterburner can kill your battery really quickly.
Let’s talk about that.
Okay hey everyone, just a quick video about a pretty important topic.
As I test a lot of Laptops and one the first things that I do is installing MSI Afterburner, I just wanted to warn you, that this indeed very helpful little app, can cause your battery to melt like ice in the sunshine. No but jokes aside, the problem is, that if your msi afterburner is set up to start wind windows, and you’re not running any game, it will actuzally cause the so called SYSTEM process to be utilized by around 5-10% and that will actually cause your Laptops battery to use like 20-30W more than without msi afterburner running.
BUT that is not the case for ALL laptops.
If you want to find out if youre affected, what you can do is, install the free hardware tool “HWInfo or also called Hardware Info” and start it with sensors only. And in the sensor window you can scroll down to the list of the app.
And once you unplug your laptop you will see the actual watt that your laptop is usuing right now. And if you’re not running anything, most laptops will use between like 6-7w to 15w.
BUT if your laptop is affected this will be more like 25 to 40 just because the system process is affected. That is happening because msi is like trying to find an app to connect with or something. However, if you close MSI Afterburner and the partner app RTSS. The utilization of the system process will disappear, and the wattage usage of your laptops battery will significantly drop.
SO if you’re wondering why your battery is always draining so fast, this MIGHT be the reason if you’re using MSI afterburner on startup.
P.s once that a game or a graphically demanding application is started, the problem goes away, so the performance in games is not affected by this.
If anybody knows why this is happening, or how to fix it without closing MSI Afterburner, please let us know in the comments with the chance of winning a pinned comment.
And that’s it for this video. Thanks for watching, see you next time, bye bye and tschüss!
