6. Scotland’s Tight Squeeze
The Cube Project is an initiative which tries to show that people can live happy, comfortable, and modern lives minimally and with a minute impact on the world. Dr. Mike Page from the University of Hertfordshire is the founder of the project and the mastermind behind the small, simple living that could earn you money rather than cost you. The Ecocube is a 100 square-foot cube with everything one might need to live, without any extras. The cube has room for a bed, a toilet and shower, a living room area, a kitchen, a dining area, and a washer and dryer, all shoved in and within tight quarters, of course. And if one decides to add solar panels, the home could actually make its occupants $1,600 yearly with the UK’s feed-in tariff.
5. Olympia, Washington Tiny Home
A woman just returned from a vacation trip to Guatemala, Dee Williams, decided to downsize her life after having an eye-opening time in the Central American country. She was living in a 1,500 square-foot home before but decided to sell that and build a newer, smaller one from scratch. What she came up with had a total of 84 square feet, and when it was done, she moved it into her friend’s backyard. The home, which she dubbed “The Little House” cost right around $10,000 to make. She also has solar panels on top for her electricity and a propane tank to keep things warm, so she pays an extremely small amount to keep the house going. Sounds like an excellent way to save money!
4. Living Small in London
Our next tiny place to live is in, you guessed it, London, England, and the price tag on this little beauty may shock you. Its location is perfect as it’s found right near Harrod’s department store, which is located on Brompton Road. That alone may explain why this thing went on the market for a whopping $145,000! The craziest part? Dozens of offers came flooding in for the 80 square-foot home quickly after it was listed, and the highest reported bid? $280,000! For a tiny home! People can be quite interesting, don’t you think?
3. Smallest House in the UK
This house, known as the Quay House, is teensy tiny and can be found in Conwy, Wales, UK. It’s an extraordinarily small red house that measures just 10 x 6 and is the smallest house in all of the UK, as you may have gathered from the title of this section. It’s so tiny that it’s become famous and is now a tourist attraction in Conwy, Wales. It’s old too; the home has been occupied by many different people since the 16th-century. At one point it was even the home to a fisherman that measured in at 6’3! There’s not much inside though, and there’s really only room for a bed, some bedside storage, a stove, and a water tap! That doesn’t seem to stop people from living in it though!
2. China’s Cramped Capsules
Have you started thinking, hey maybe I could live in one of these places, by myself, no pets, no significant others? Well, this little place offers a smaller space than any we’ve seen so far, and they advertise that these apartments are fit for two! Wulan, China is where these two-person “capsule apartments,” which only boast a whopping 50 square-feet, are located. In Hubei Province, 55 different capsule apartments were put into a six-story building, most of which were taken by young adults not in college who are either under or unemployed. Each one simultaneously serves as a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom, and you can imagine just how awkward that would get sharing that tight space with another person.
