Hulu lowers cost of basic plan to $6 a month after Netflix raises its prices
(KRON) -- Hulu is reducing the price of its basic plan from $8 per month to $6 per month, just a week after competitor Netflix announced it was raising its prices.
While the basic plan has been cut, the price of its live TV streaming service has increased from $40 per month to $45 per month.
Hulu's "no commercials" monthly plan will remain $11.99 per month, along with its $12.99 combo subscription with Spotify.
The new prices go into effect Feb. 26 for new subscribers and on the next billing cycle for existing customers.
Earlier this month, Hulau announced it had hit 25 million total subscribers across all of its plan, including 1 million Hulu with Live TV customers.
Just last week Netflix announced it was raising its U.S. prices by 13 percent to 18 percent, its biggest increase since the company launched its streaming service 12 years ago.
