Radiation oncology is used as an adjuvant therapy to other modalities of treatment (and in some cases, it can even be used as a neoadjuvant therapy right before surgery). The goal of radiotherapy is to remove microscopic or stubborn disease left over from traditional systemic therapies and/or surgery. Sometimes radiotherapy is also used as a palliative solution to help with disease symptoms and discomfort. Due to the diffuse nature of mesothelioma, radiation oncology can, however, be challenging.

This session was presented at the 2023 International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma in Washington, DC by Keith Cengel, MD, PhD, UPenn.
