In this tutorial, we log in to Windows 10 automatically, with our password entered in the background without user input, allowing us full access to network resources, personal settings and files, whilst removing the need for manual password entry and speeding up our startup process. Whilst we’ve previously covered this topic, more recent updates to the Windows login process have led to the method we feature being unavailable to some users. We therefore show how a very simple registry edit can re-enable this option, once again allowing us passwordless access to our device.

It is important to note that the outcome of this process is a device which grants immediate access to the desktop and all resources of the logged-in user, and it is therefore vital that the machine is physically secure and accessible only to the registered user and any guests whom they entirely trust. Using this method removes an important safety barrier, and these consequences should be appreciated before following this tutorial.

Furthermore, be aware that making a mistake whilst editing the registry can destabilise the system, and, whilst the narrowly defined parameters of this tutorial should be entirely safe, there always exists a danger to the device. We therefore strongly advise backing up the registry as shown in the tutorial, as well as creating a System Restore Point and full system backups. Tutorials for undertaking each of these steps can be found on our channel.

The registry key we edit can be accessed directly by copying and pasting the text shown below into the navigation pane of the Registry Editor:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device
