The PoE technology can take a single Ethernet cable to send both power and data to the edge IP camera. You will need a PoE Switch to send the power to the Ethernet cable. You also can use the PoE injector instead. If your IP camera doesn’t come with POE features, the POE splitter will be required to split the power from the data. The POE splitter also can regulate the power to DC12V output to supply the IP camera. The PoE is a safe method to transmit the power and data. There is a power handshake between the POE injector and the POE splitter. If you remove the PoE splitter and connect the cable to the camera, the POE injector will refuse to release the power.
