Not just that, airline and airport staff handle your bag really badly, like extremely.
I’ve got my luggage damaged multiple times.
Most recently it happened on my flight from Vienna to Delhi where 2 of our hard case suitcases were ripped apart, locks broken, zipper gone.
Luckily we got 2 new suitcases in the airport itself from the airlines after fighting with them for an hour, they wanted to settle with just Rs 3,000 vouchers.
So what’s the solution?
1. Never ever pack valuables in your check in bag like electronics, jewellery, expensive shoes / bags, that can easily be detected in the x ray machine.
2. Always click pictures of your bag both from inside and outside before boarding the flight, helps you get a better claim.
3. Keep the bill of your suitcase and if possible the things in your bags.
4. Go for zipperless bags with latches. Samsonite has some really good options. If you’re a lavish kind, Tumi also has good options.

You can get upto 20k in domestic flights and much more than that on international flights.
