Mixing in Audacity is quite easy. The most important thing is your ears -- if you don't like what you hear, change it. Audacity will probably do exactly what you want.

For this exercise we will use 2 audio tracks in Audacity -- one voice and one music. In many cases you would want the music playing quietly in the background and the voice in the foreground. To do this we need to adjust the gain levels on both tracks.

Load up both your tracks in Audacity. On the left margin of each track you will see two slides: one for balance (pan) and one for volume (gain). We need to adjust the gain.

On your music track you want to lower your gain slide quite a lot. When you have adjusted it, click play to here what you have. Make more adjustments until you have the levels you like. Make sure you don't raise the gain too much in either track. You could cause some distortions or peaking in the track.
When you are done you can go to FILE -- EXPORT and safe as a WAV, MP3, etc.

Happy recording,
Andrew
