I rip and tear my way through Doom Eternal to give you my review of this retro, modern, futuristic game. In summary:
Doom Eternal is very much like Doom 2016, but with more movement, more enemies, more settings and way more powerups and pickups. It really, REALLY encourages you to get up and close to enemies by rewarding you with health, ammo and armour from finisher moves.
It's different to Doom 2016 because it no longer uses Megatexture, and because the Marauder enemy's weakness isn't bullets but rather his big flashing green eyes. I felt like Doom 2016 got harder and harder right up to the final boss, while with Doom Eternal the difficulty peaked a bit earlier on and by the end I had enough powerups and upgrades to survive pretty much everything, even when the arena was a sea of projectiles and giblets. All in all I'm very happy with this game and would have a hard time returning to 2016 again, now that I'm accustomed to Doom Eternal's perks and strengths.
