Market sentiment reflects the collective attitude of investors towards specific stocks, sectors, or the market as a whole. In this video, I'll take you through different market sentiment indicators like CNN's Fear and Greed Index, Tickertape's Market Mood Index and I'll briefly touch upon other signals such as momentum (RSI, MACD), market breadth (advance-decline ratio, Arms Index), put-call ratio, technical indicators, economic indicators, social media sentiment analysis etc.
Specific to Market Mood Index (MMI), I did some data experiments to understand the efficacy of this signalling tool using daily MMI data, SIPs and other variations. My analysis shows -- the market mood index's "extreme fear" phase is a great time to invest in the markets but only for a short duration of say, 1 year. Beyond an year i.e. in the long term, the benefits are negated and it doesn't matter if one invests in the "extreme fear" phase or during "extreme greed"
