Why is Microsoft left out of FAANG?

Each of these brands have a strong consumer facing brand.
But what about Microsoft?
Xbox, the Surface laptop and Windows are consumer facing too.
Let’s start from the beginning. First, acronyms are meaningless. Some analyst coins the term and everyone uses it. There is very little original thinking in the world.
NYU professor Scott Galloway was one of the first people to identify the Four Horsemen or Big Four. This list excluded Netflix. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt also excluded Microsoft because it wasn’t on the ‘minds’ of the consumer. But to be honest, Microsoft is a direct competitor to Google.
Now in 2017, the infamous Mad Money Guru, Jim Cramer, mentioned FAANG for the first time. He included Netflix since the company was having a record year with subscriber growth. Jim also coined the term FANG in 2013 which probably gave Scott the idea for his book.
Either way, don’t pay attention to buzzwords. FAANG, FANG or the Four Horsemen should not determine your investment strategy.
