In this video, we will compare two most popular IDEs for Rust development: CLion and VSCode. We will mainly look at their debugger features for Rust development and show how they compare.

CLion is a cross-platform IDE developed by JetBrains that supports Rust through the official Rust plugin. It offers many features such as code completion, refactoring, debugging, testing, code analysis, and more. CLion also integrates with Cargo, the Rust package manager, and supports Rust-specific features such as macros, attributes, and traits. The main advantage of CLion over VSCode is its tighter integration of debugger.

VSCode is a lightweight and extensible code editor developed by Microsoft that supports Rust through the Rust-analyzer extension. It also provides features such as code completion, refactoring, debugging, testing, code analysis, and more. VSCode also integrates with Cargo and supports Rust-specific features such as macros, attributes, and traits. The main advantage of VSCode is that it is completely free and open-source.

By the end of this video, you will have a better understanding of the pros and cons of CLion and VSCode as IDEs for Rust development. You will also be able to choose the IDE that suits your needs and preferences best. Stay tuned for more videos on Rust development. Thanks for watching!

Update: A few days after I uploaded the video, JetBrains released early access program (EAP) of RustRover, a dedicated IDE for Rust! For now, this is quite similar to CLion + Rust plugin. Check it out: https://www.jetbrains.com/rust/
