Joanna Eberhart moves to the seemingly perfect town of Stepford with her family and notices the unnervingly submissive behavior of the local wives. As she investigates, Joanna and her friend Bobbie discover that the women in Stepford are not merely conforming to traditional roles but have been replaced by robotic replicas created to be the ideal wives for their husbands. The mystery of the town's eerie perfection and the sinister truth behind the transformation of the women build to a chilling climax as Joanna realizes she is in danger of being replaced as well.
