What is ovulation and pregnancy

Ovulation is the process wherein a mature egg is released by the ovary and travels down the Fallopian tube, where it may be fertilized by a sperm. Ovulation usually occurs around the mid-point of a woman's menstrual cycle, or about 14 days before the start of her next period. During ovulation, the hormone levels in a woman's body change, which can cause physical symptoms such as abdominal pain, cramps, bloating, and changes in vaginal discharge. Ovulation is necessary for pregnancy to occur, as it is the release of an egg that can be fertilized by sperm to create a zygote.
