Nano Big Muff PI review
Big Muff is an icon among all players, but when it comes to David Gilmour we're talking about an essential piece of gear.
David used several versions of the Muff during different eras.
We can spend a lot of time and money catching a good replica or a good vintage reissue.
Can we use a standard cheap Nano Big Muff PI to cover Gilmour sound?
Well yes we can!
I had an old 2000s NYC big box about 10 years ago. It wasn't great, but it was very cheap and I used it for some time.
I was boomy and noisy, almost impossible to keep at bay.
With the nano we're in the same territory, but I could appreciate some improvements: less boomy and less metallic.
So now we have an organic distortion and here I used it alone and with Tube Driver and compression to get different Gilmour tones.
Still a bit hard to deal with its noise (all the muffs are noisy by nature, don't think that other reissues like the Triangle can escape that), but I'd say...not too bad in the end.
This is still using the 2013 EC-D107 Rev. A circuit, but mine was produced in 2021 and the PCB is now blue, instead of green.
