It was a busy day for cricket in Australia! The three South Asian giants had matches today, which were all equally important for the Pakistani cricket team to move forward in the tournament. However, luck was not on our side even after Pakistan managed their first win in the T20i World Cup 2022 🏟️🇵🇰🇮🇳🇧🇩
The start of the day went well for Pakistan as Bangladesh managed to win in the last ball thriller at The Gabba, then Pakistan played against Netherlands and won its first T20 game in Australia, finally getting points on the table!
Later in the evening was the decider, the all-important India vs South Africa match for which all Pakistani cricket fans were backing up India to win against South Africa. History repeated today, giving us a flashback of India’s game against England in the World Cup 2019 where India lost too. From an Indian scoreboard that looked like a phone number due to the batting collapse, Surya Kumar Yadav was the only player on fire! He displayed great batting skills and amazing intent, hit the ball all across the ground and ended with 68 of 40 balls. Although India got down with a small total to defend, the bowlers in blue did really well in the start to remove a few South African batsmen, specially Arshdeep Singh was amazing.
The biggest letdown for the Indian team was their fielding in today's match, with Kohli dropping a catch and Rohit missing out on easy run-out opportunities. We all know that the team with the best fielding side surely has an advantage and will be the favourites to win this World Cup. 🏏 🏆
It is being said that Pakistan might not make it to the semi-finals due to India’s loss, but the truth is that we too couldn’t close out two games that were firmly in our hands. We could have performed better!
Before the World Cup 2022, Babar Azam was averaging 50+ in international cricket. After his third successive single-digit score in T20Is, that average has dropped below 50 now. Better days will come, King Babar. We are hoping all of our boys in green improve their performance and strategies for the coming events and exit this tournament in style! 💪
