Ukrainian National Guard Prepare on Kharkiv Front Line
Members of the Ukrainian National Guard were prepare themselves in Kharkiv on Monday.
MORE: They trained using armored vehicles and trenches in anticipation of a surprise Russian attack on Victory Day, one fighter said.
"We are ready to fight and repel the enemy," said a fighter known by the nom de guerre of Medjahed.
Moscow on Monday marked Victory Day, the World War II victory over the Nazis, with a military parade on Red Square.
The Ukrainian government asked people to stay at home during the celebration days fearing danger of shelling and provocation from the Russian side.
Getting a full picture of the unfolding battle in the east has been difficult because airstrikes and artillery barrages have made it extremely dangerous for reporters to move around.
Both Ukraine and the Moscow-backed rebels fighting in the east also have introduced tight restrictions on reporting from the combat zone.
