In Brazil, 64 million people live with some degree of food insecurity. At the same time, 55 million tons of food are wasted in Brazil every year. Food waste exacerbates existing social inequalities and is responsible for approximately 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions – five times more than emissions from aviation.

To address these challenges, the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Pacto Contra a Fome, hosted a luncheon to discuss the role of civil society in identifying policies and solutions that promote the transition of food systems in Brazil.

Moderator:
Maria Siqueira, Co-Founder & Director of Public Policy and Projects, Pacto Contra a Fome

Speakers:
Isabel Ferreira, Executive Director, Instituto Aya; Representative, FOLU Brazil (Food and Land Use Coalition)
Mariana Fragoso, Executive Director, Instituto Capim Santo
David Hertz, Co-Founder and CEO, Gastromotiva; Advisor, Pacto Contra a Fome
