Fundamentals of Orbital Operations Course (FOOC) is a course that lays the requisite foundation to understanding the "whys" of orbits. This course will teach the student how to calculate the Classical Orbital Elements (COEs) from data collected from the Space Surveillance Network (SSN) Site.
The course will lead the student to deep understanding of the COEs, causes of orbital perturbations, and how COE changes affect satellites (Target and Chase) in an orbital engagement scenario. The course also introduces planning for orbital engagements and operations in the Radial, In-track, and Cross-track (RIC) Reference Frame.
Graduates of FOOC will be ready for the follow-on course Concepts of Orbital Warfare Course (COWC).
