Based on the novel by Sumner Locke Elliott (Careful, He Might Hear You), Water Under the Bridge is an acclaimed Australian miniseries presenting a romantic story of life and love between the two world wars.

Unfolding over eight episodes, including an emotionally gripping feature-length first part, Water Under the Bridge tells the story of actor Neil Atkins (David Cameron), a man torn between his aspirations and the women in his life. The story opens in Melbourne, 1918. After three year-old Neil's parents (Peita Toppano and Sean Scully) are struck down by influenza, he is taken into the guardianship of chorus girl Shasta (Robyn Nevin), who has sacrificed her career to look after him. By 1932 Shasta and Neil have moved to Sydney, where Neil is invited to a party hosted by the wealthy Mazzini family celebrating the opening of the Harbour Bridge. Neil becomes infatuated with Carrie Mazzini (Judy Davis), the spoiled youngest daughter of the Mazzini clan. Little does Neil realise that Shasta has a grievance against the Mazzinis and that the love affair he is about to embark on could plunge his life, and the lives of those around him, into turmoil. Water Under The Bridge features a brilliant supporting cast of Australian talent, including Rowena Wallace as Carrie's sister Honor Mazzini, Peter Whitford as Honor's fiancé T.C. Shallicot, who is having an affair with journalist Maggie McGhee (Jacki Weaver), Rod Mullinar as radio singing star Don Brandywine and John Howard as the malicious Archie Ewers. Arthur Dignam, Graeme Blundell and Kerry Armstrong also feature in cameos that round out the star-studded cast.
