The unitary method involves finding the value of 1% of an amount, and then finding the whole amount by multiplying by 100. This method is useful for many types of problems where the value of an amount needs to be determined and all that is currently known is the value of part of that amount.

Example:

Find the whole amount, if 10% of the amount is 50.

Apply the unitary method by finding the value of 1%. Let x represent the whole amount.

10% of x = 50

Divide both sides of the equation by 10 to find the value of 1% of the amount:

1% of x = 5

Find the value of the whole amount by multiplying both sides of the equation by 100:

100% of x = 500

Therefore, the whole amount is 500.
