Why this region of GERMANY loves RUSSIA and PUTIN
According to a survey conducted in early 2023 by the Pew Research Center, Russia and President Vladimir Putin are viewed very negatively in some countries. On average, 82% of people in all countries surveyed have a negative opinion of Russia. Poland and Sweden rank highest in terms of their unfavorable opinion, with 98% and 96%, respectively. But on the other hand, Germany, despite having been one of the countries most dependent on Russian gas and oil and therefore one of the most harmed when Russia cut off supplies to Europe, in this country, fewer people have an unfavorable image of Russia with 86%. This figure does not seem so conclusive, but in another survey it turned out that 40% of Germans believe, wholly or partially, that NATO was the one who provoked Russia into invading Ukraine. That figure rises to 59% in the East German provinces. It is even common for hundreds of people to march every Monday in favor of Russia and Vladimir Putin. The same scene is repeated in Dresden and other eastern German cities. So the question is: why are there so many pro-Russians in East Germany?
