The only reason that we track and composite the 3D model in Maya is because it's free! Also, you can get a great render of the 3D model (if know how to render with Arnold in Maya). To import 3D models directly into After Effects, you'll need a plug-in called Element 3D and it's about 150 bucks if I remember correctly.

Also, you'll need to install the extension in After Effects: Autodesk Maya Live Link (free)

Currently, it's not compatible with the newest version of After Effects (2022). However, if you are using After Effects 2018 -2020, the Maya Live Link will work perfectly.
