Edwin had worked all his life but aged 70 he found himself with nothing to fall back on and homeless. After sleeping rough and in his car he ended up in a self-made tin shed in bushland, thinking about taking his own life.
Life had been hard at times for Edwin but being homeless was the hardest ever period of his life.
A call to Lifeline offered him hope and he walked out. In the streets of the NSW town of Cessnock he went into the office of community housing provider Home in Place.
With the help of the Home in Place team, he now lives in social housing and spends time volunteering to give back to community. Edwin says having a permanent roof over his head and the support of caring people has saved his life. It has restored his self esteem and given him a new lease on life. He can again stand on his own two feet.
Home in Place is one of Australia’s largest not for profit community housing providers. It manages more than 7600 social, affordable and disability housing properties in New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand.
