The major update in Ubuntu 22.10 is a new official remix: Ubuntu Unity is now a recognised flavour.
Previously, Ubuntu had its own desktop called Unity, but in 2017 it switched to the default GNOME Shell user interface. Rudra Saraswat, a 12-year-old Linux prodigy, revived it, and ever since, the Ubuntu Unity team has applied to become an official edition, as we highlighted here in The Reg. It is once again official as of version 22.10 once the voting was successful.
The "Kinetic Kudu" release is based on kernel 5.19, released at the end of July, and the official mainstream flavor uses GNOME – specifically, the latest GNOME 43.
