Why is Pluto Not a Planet? What are dwarf planets?

The International Astronomical Union (IAU), responsible for defining celestial classifications, embarked on redefining what qualifies as a planet. In 2006, they introduced three criteria for planetary status:
1. Orbiting the Sun.
2. Possessing sufficient mass to form a spherical shape due to gravity.
3. Clearing its orbital path of other celestial debris.
This third criterion proved to be Pluto's undoing. While meeting the first two conditions, Pluto shares its orbit with numerous icy, rocky objects within the Kuiper Belt, failing the IAU's definition of a planet. Consequently, Pluto was reclassified as a "dwarf planet," a category encompassing celestial bodies that exhibit some planetary traits but fall short of meeting all criteria for full planetary status.
