Hey What Now! was the first single from the October 1988 album “Fingertips” from The Cockroaches. The film clip for Hey What Now!, written by John Field, was shot in Sydney and tried to capture the excitement of a live Cockroaches performance. So the band were in a small space surrounded by film screens where various and dynamic visuals were played as the band moved around singing the song. There were a lot of takes but it certainly captured some of the energy of the band.

Hey What Now! was followed by a number of other singles from Fingertips such as “You and Me” (John Field) and "Permanently Single” (John Field, Paul Field).

HEY WHAT NOW! (2.37)
(John Field)

A thousand years in the making
Gone in the wink of an eye
A hundred days with nowhere to go
Nowhere to call my own

Hey, hey, hey (Hey, hey, hey)
Whoa, yeah (Whoa, whoa, yeah)

You'll find a way to get through
So come on, come on, help me find it, too

Chorus:
Where can I go, what can I do?
What is there left for me to do?
Hey what now!
Hey what now!

Give me something that I want
Give me ninety-nine and a half (ninety-nine and a half)
Burning love get on it, baby
Hey, hey (Hey, hey)

Chorus:
Where can I go, what can I do?
What is there left for me to do?
Hey what now!
Hey what now!

And if you’re wondering just what I’m doing here
They’re a few of my favourite things to hear
Let’s have a clambake ( clambake)
Let’s have a ball (have a ball)
Let’s dance to Tom Jones all night
Let’s do it all, yeah, yeah, yeah

Chorus:
Where can I go, what can I do?
What is there left for me to do?
Hey what now!
Hey what now!

Where can I go, what can I do?
What is there left for me to do?
Hey what now!
Hey what now!

Ooh, Ooh, Wooh!
