GULAG. History of Horror. A black spot and the main shame in history of the USSR
According to the GULAG History Museum, about 20 million prisoners passed through correctional labor camps and prisons of this structure. About 2 million of them were shot or died of hunger and unbearable working conditions. There were both hardened criminals and sadly remembered “political” prisoners among them. The empire of the GULAG (the Main Directorate of Camps and Places of Detention), which meant 30 thousand places of detention, existed in the 1930s-1960s and covered the entire Soviet Union.
