TRANSCRIPT: Hi guys my name is Miqueas. I am here at Solex College in downtown Chicago and I am an instructor here. Today we are going to be talking about the order of adjectives.

So imagine for example, that you have a word or a phrase that you want to create with words and you are using many adjectives. There is a specific order that you must use these. Ill explain a little but more but lets first look at the order.

So you must use first quality or number such as 5,10, many, several. Quality or opinion, beautiful or delicious. This is an opinion you have about something right? Ugly for example. Size, big small, tiny. Age, young, old, maybe 15 year old. Shape, square, round. Color, blue, orange, pink, whatever color. Origin, where it comes from typically this is a country of origin so maybe Mexican, Russian German, whatever. and then lastly the material that it's made of so glass, wooden there are many examples.

So what were thinking about is if you want to make a sentence which is very common, and you are using more than one adjective to describe the object then you must use this order. So let's say for example, I'll look at my words here and i''ll make a sentence. I could say, 5 big beautiful.. and now lets think of an object. 5 beautiful big balls. That’s the correct order. I could not say 5 beautiful big balls . why? because you must follow this order.

Another example. I could say an old square blue Mexican book for example, but I could not say a square old orange Mexican book.

So this is generally the order that we must follow when working with adjectives. You could have a sentence using all of these categories, because you can use many many adjectives. It's possible that if you create a sentence with you know 10 adjectives it might sound a little bit ridiculous, but using 2 or 3 is perfectly normal and this is the order that you should focus on.
