An excerpt from Nelson George’s very personal liner notes for the new collection Songs For Groovy Children: The Fillmore East Concerts. The noted writer and film maker was a kid in Brooklyn’s Brownsville ghetto at that time when soul and salsa ruled the day and rock was, in a way, somewhat foreign. The music that Hendrix, along with Billy Cox and Buddy Miles, made over those two nights catalyzed a paradigm shift in the world of Black Music, the reverberations from which are still being felt today. Today a new animated video was launched in which you can hear him talk about Music That Changed Lives. Songs For Groovy Children assembles all four historic debut concerts by the trio from the legendary venue in their original performance sequence. The 5 CD or 8 vinyl set boasts over two dozen tracks that have either never before been released commercially or have been newly pressed and newly remixed.
