OHMYGOD HEY!
This year, the theatre world has enjoyed two particularly high profile productions of the William Shakespeare tragedy ROMEO AND JULIET.
The first of these took place at the Duke of York's Theatre in the West End and was directed by Jamie Lloyd, with Tom Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers starring as the titular characters.
In a subsequent Broadway production, meanwhile, staged at New York's Circle in the Square Theater, Sam Gold directed Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor as those star-crossed lovers.
In today's video essay I'm comparing and contrasting multiple aspects of these hugely different productions, including their casting, direction, design, and critical reception.
