Zaibatsu were Japanese centralised, family dominated, monopolistic economic groups that dominated the Japanese economy until the end of World War 2, at which they were broken up. As time passed, however, the units of the old Zaibatsu drifted back together, and they now cooperate within the group much as they did before their dissolution.
