In this clip, Robert explains a classic piano recording trick used by legendary engineer Rudy Van Gelder on many iconic jazz recordings.
The technique involves placing a microphone inside the piano facing the soundboard to capture the warm, resonant body of the sound.
By blending this with microphones positioned over the hammers, you can fine-tune the balance between the richness of the soundboard and the clarity of the attack, offering more control over your piano recordings.
