Northeast Philadelphia (PNE) is a medium sized, primarily general and corporate aviation airport approximately 15 miles northeast of the larger Philadelphia International (PHL). While between 80 to 90 percent of the traffic consist of single engine, light-twin training aircraft, there is also a robust helicopter community including, police, TV, training and flight test operations.

0:48 - The airport configuration consists of two intersecting runways labeled 6-24 and 15-33. A full length parallel taxiway is located east of runway 15-33.

1:00 - There are no official hotspots on the airport, however there are several areas of which visiting and arriving pilots need to be aware. When landing runway 24, pilots may be asked to taxi without delay past taxiway Juliet to taxiway Charlie. This is due to departure congestion at and around taxiway Juliet and runway 24.

1:23 - Pilots landing runway 33 and clearing at taxiway Hotel need to ensure that their aircraft is completely across the hold short line before stopping to contact ground.

1:36 - Pilots have become confused when taxing in the vicinity of the intersection of taxiways Hotel, Golf, Alpha, and Foxtrot. It is a large area of concrete and can be confusing.

1:59 - Pay close attention to the following areas when getting ready to depart PNE. There are three taxiways that provide direct access to runway 15-33 from the ramp areas. They are located at taxiway Alpha 1, Alpha 2, and Alpha 4. Pilots need to pay close attention to your taxi route including route, turns, and hold-short instructions.

2:25 - There are no dedicated run-up areas on the field. This is an issue especially in the area of taxiways Alpha1, Bravo, and the approach end of runway 33. Pilots are requested to ask ground control for a run-up location if they can't run-up on the ramp.

2:42 - When taxiing from the north side parking areas some pilots have become confused and missed the turn on taxiway Charlie and crossed runway 15. In addition, after making the turn on Charlie, possibly due to the short distance between the intersection and runway hold-short, pilots have also crossed runway 6-24. Remember, you must have an ATC clearance to cross any runway, active or not.

The FAA's From the Flight Deck video series uses aircraft-mounted cameras to capture runway and taxiway footage and combines them with diagrams and visual graphics to clearly identify hot spots and other safety-sensitive items. Learn more at https://www.faa.gov/FromTheFlightDeck.
