Any side of a triangle can be the base. The height is a line segment perpendicular to the base going up to a vertex. That line segments will make a right angle with the base. We can use the formula for the area of a triangle, A=½bh, to solve real-world problems. We see a walk-through to solve 3 word problems that involve area and triangles. Sometimes a height will be shown outside of a triangle by extending the line of the base, but the base measure will not change. Remember to answer in square units for problems that involve area.
