Python is a popular scripting language that is widely used in networking to automate common tasks. This course, which contains 21 short lessons, offers cookbook-style instructions to help you use Python by teaching through example.

The course focuses on Python 3.It aims to fill the gap between “Hello world” introductions and writing and running complex scripts. It emphasizes practical projects and uses examples that solve real networking problems. Most importantly, it’s meant for network engineers. It’s been designed and created by a fellow practitioner who knows your pain.

The lessons in this course include using Python for detecting routing table changes, working with Nornir, setting up SMS alerts for watched events, how to refactor your code to make it easier for others to adapt it to different uses, collecting Python modules into a package, and distributing packages.

The lab work happens in Cisco VIRL. You can work in your own VIRL setup as you watch the lessons.Course files are in a GitHub repository: https://github.com/ericchou1/pp_pract...

Eric Chou is a network engineer with 20 years of experience, including managing networks at Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure. He’s the founder of Network Automation Nerds and has written the books Mastering Python Networking and Distributed Denial Of Service (with Rich Groves). You can follow him on Twitter at @ericchou.
