Pomodoro involves working in 25-minute intervals separated by 5-minute breaks - here's how to implement this time management technique with Pomodoro timer in Clockify.

You’ve probably heard about Pomodoro, a popular technique for boosting productivity.

But how exactly does it work?

In this video, we’ll cover everything you need to know.

Basically, Pomodoro involves working in 25-minute intervals, separated by 5-minute breaks.
After 4 such cycles, you take a longer break.

By timing your activities and taking regular breaks,

you improve focus, minimize distractions, and get things done.

There are a lot of Pomodoro apps out there.

In this video, we’ll show you how to use the Pomodoro timer in Clockify because it comes with a lot of useful features.

First, you’ll need to install the browser extension, either for Chrome or Firefox.

Once installed, you’ll need to create a free account and log in.

Once you have everything set up, go to “Settings” and enable Pomodoro.

Now, all you have to do is type what you’re working on, start the timer, and work.

When you close the extension, the timer will keep running.

You’ll notice that the icon changes the color, so you’ll know when the timer is running, and there will be no distracting counter constantly in front of you.

When the timer reaches 25 minutes, you’ll get a notification asking you to take a break.

Click on “Start break” to start the break timer.

While on a break, you can browse the web, grab a snack, stretch and exercise, or simply relax.

Once the break is finished, you’ll get the notification to get back to work.

You can start a timer for a brand new activity, or continue the timer for what you were working on before.

After you go through 4 such cycles, Clockify will give you the option to reward yourself with a longer 30-minute break.

As you can see, Clockify keeps a record of all your activities so you can see how your day looks like.

It even lets you track your productivity across days and weeks.

And that’s it for Pomodoro, in a nutshell.

Now, a lot of people have trouble using Pomodoro. The number one complaint is that Pomodoro forces you to take a break even when you’re deeply engaged in your work.

The trick to making Pomodoro work for you is to customize it.

The default setting is 25/5. It’s long enough to get meaningful work done, and short enough to not exhaust you.

But if you find yourself getting constantly interrupted by unwanted breaks, increase the work interval to something like 40 minutes and the break interval to something like 10 minutes.

That way, you’ll have larger blocks of productive work. Another option is to dismiss the notification and manually start the break when you find it most convenient.

The timer for your activity will continue ticking so you will know exactly how much time you’ve spent on it.

If you don’t want all these options, you can enable automatic breaks, and breaks will automatically start and end on their own, without you needing to click anything.

You’ll just get a notification that your break has started. What’s great about Clockify is that, in addition to Pomodoro, it comes with a lot of other useful features.

It can detect and remove the time you’ve spent away from the computer. It can send reminders
when you forget to start the timer, and it has a robust reporting system if you need it.
