“Just standing in front of a painting. It’s an emotional interaction, and I can picture what ... the artist was thinking,” says John Hood, a rising star among realist painters from San Francisco.

To see what’s beyond the painting, a pair of trained eyes is a must.

“I think that as an artist, you develop a trained eye, and that trained eye opens up the world to you in amazing fashion,” Hood says. “Painting enriches my life, and I feel very lucky that I’ve learned how to reach for it.”

Our guest today is John Hood who has been an artist all his life. He was trained as an architect and worked in San Francisco for 40 years. He is dedicated to improving his skills in the art of painting, and keeping realism alive.

In this episode, we talk to him about the importance of realist paintings and the positive impact they can bring to society as a whole, as well as how realism improves life, character, and feelings.
