Looking At Picture Books 9: with NICOLA KENT
What do you do if you are stuck in a bad mood and can't get out of it? Author/illustrator NICOLA KENT's latest picture book 'Grumpy Hat' (Andersen Press) is a charming look at solving that particular problem. In this video Nicola shares her process, and we chat about everything from being intimidated by pencils, why aeroplanes are bigger than you think, and being bentwood chair soulmates (look out for the evidence!). There's lots of detail about unusual paint types, choosing colours, and why animals in picture books are a useful way of exploring serious issues.
There's also a look (at the end) at 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas, another brilliant picture book about emotions - with some stunning pop-ups.
