Wow! There are some really rundown neighborhoods in Columbia, South Carolina!
On this adventure, I went to the worst neighborhoods of Columbia, South Carolina. The purpose was to record the worst parts of town - most of which are on the capital city’s north side. It was a cold, dreary day, and a little misty out on a Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2 in the afternoon.
Columbia is in Richland County, which has a lot of poor and run down areas. The north side of town has the worst pockets, but it’s hit and miss up here - there’s nice neighborhoods mixed into the really rundown areas with all the high crime and poverty. A quarter of this city’s 133,000 residents live in poverty, and it ranks as the 20th most dangerous place in the state - both are above average, but not terrible. The places we’ll see have Columbia’s highest concentration of poverty and crime.
I’m going to kind of bounce around on the north end of Columbia and show you on a map where I am. Here are the worst areas of Columbia, South Carolina.
